Four months later on August 31, 1985, a rescue mission was conducted by the Space Shuttle Discovery STS 51-1 to repair the satellite. Once Discovery was safely in orbit, an astronaut climbed onto the robotic arm in Discovery's payload bay. The arm was extend and the astronaut was able to make contact with Leasat 3. Then the robotic arm pulled both the astronaut and the satellite into the cargo bay. In the bay, a new electronics box was installed onto Leasat 3, successfully repairing the electronic malfunctions. The next day the satellite was returned to orbit and Discovery 51-1 then returned safely to earth. Small parts - not for children under the age of three
